BOOK SOON FOR OUR NEXT PRODUCTION:
Tyldesley Little Theatre (TLT) first came to life in 1921 and today is still serving the local community with high quality drama in live theatre. Now in our 106th Season, we are one of the older amateur dramatic societies in the country and can trace many of our stage productions right back to those early days (see our History page). We are members of the 'Greater Manchester Drama Federation' - GMDF, the 'Bolton Amateur Theatre Societies' - BATS & the 'National Operatic & Dramatic Association' - NODA
Please look through all our web pages. You will find details of the society, our history and details of our productions, past present and future. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact us using the email and phone details on the sidebar. You can even find our Centenary Video compilation here
We are an amateur society, run totally by volunteers but offering entertainment to very high standards, bringing live theatre to you at a reasonable price. We usually perform four plays a year along with our traditional family pantomime. Our plays are varied, offering a wide range of entertainment from comedy and thrillers through to farce.
The auditorium is a small, intimate space, seating 139 people on two levels. The Stalls are on the ground-floor of the building, with a small Balcony on the first-floor (some seats in the latter area have restricted sight-lines). We have refreshment rooms on both the ground-floor and in the basement, where tea, coffee and biscuits are available during the interval. Tea/Coffee tokens can be purchased in the foyer prior to performances. We are not licenced for the sale of alcohol
We meet regularly, normally on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week, from 7:30 to 10:00, for rehearsals, with a break during the summer and over Christmas/New Year due to holidays etc. We hold auditions for all our productions (see our 'News-Room' page for details as they become available).
We are always pleased to welcome new members to the company, in an acting, backstage or social sphere. It doesn't matter whether you want to act on stage or simply brew up, you are very welcome. We need members to help out in all the jobs that occur in professional theatre but on a smaller scale. These include, directing, acting, backstage team, set construction, technical, greeting patrons, making refreshments, and, regrettably, washing up & cleaning!! However, it is important to remember that we are an amateur society and cannot accept membership from anyone holding either an Equity card or Spotlight membership (these are rules applied by the GMDF)
Unfortunately we are not a musical society. Normally, the only neccessity for singers or dancers are in our annual pantomime, the auditions for which are usually held in June/July.
We do not have a youth section and due to Government legislation only accept membership of those aged 18 years of age and above as TLT cannot meet the current requirements for chaperoning or changing facilities under 18s
For further details please email... membership@tlt.org.uk or come along on our rehearsal nights for a look around, but, as mentioned above, during the summer, because of holidays etc., please contact us first.
The Stalls and ground-floor public areas are fully accessible by wheel-chair. We have an area of the Stalls which, on-request, can accommodate wheel-chairs. If you require this facility, please mention when booking tickets. Our Front-of-House staff will be pleased to offer any assistance you may need.
We have a unisex toilet on the ground-floor with full disabled access and facilities. On the balcony level, we have an ambulatory toilet in the Men's Toilet. Both toilets are to the latest government and local authority standards.
Please see the latest ticket arrangements on the 'Book Tickets' page
We offer a season ticket scheme where you can pay for all the plays in a season at once. You don't save a great deal of money, but you do get priory booking and, where possible, a choice of seat/s before tickets go on general sale. For details, please email tickets@tlt.org.uk and we will send you full details. We regret that the season ticket scheme does NOT include tickets to our pantomime
Our evening productions normally start at 7.30pm, with matinees during our pantomime. The times of matinees are published with particular performance details.
TLT is a totally self-sufficient registered charity, relying primarily on ticket sales, donations, and sponsorship from local businesses in the Lancashire, Cheshire and North West area to survive. If you are a business who would like to help keep local live theatre alive, please contact us for details of our sponsorship packages.
We are located in Tyldesley, within easy reach of Astley, Boothstown, Atherton, Bolton, Leigh and Wigan (see Bing Mapping )
Follow the road signs to Tyldesley where possible.
When you arrive in Tyldesley, having negotiated the one-way system, get onto Elliott Street (also one-way), which is the main shopping street in Tyldesley.
Travel along Elliott Street and just before the florist (on your right), turn left onto Wareing Street.
Travel down the hill and take the first right turn, by The Railway Pub onto St. George's Street.
At the next crossroads turn left onto Lemon Street.
The theatre is on the right.
The theatre is in a residential area. Due to congestion around the theatre on performance nights, please use the car-parks:
1. Half way down High Street about 4 minutes walk from the Theatre, on the left hand side. High Street (not shown on the map above) is the continuation of Wareing Street, on the opposite side of Elliott Street, and is a one way street from Elliott Street to Shuttle Street.
2. There is limted parking on Railway Street (the right turn at the bottom of Lemon Street).
3. You may be able to park on the car park for the guided busway, HOWEVER, there are signs which say "Busway users only". TLT offer this for your information only, and at all times you park at your own risk.
You can also get to us on the Leigh/Atherton/Manchester 'Guided Busway', routes V1 & V2. Get off at the Tyldesley interchange, cross Astley Street and walk through the car park to the footpath at the far side. Go up the hill keeping to the left towards Leigh. After approx. 100 yards turn right onto Lemon Street and walk up the hill to the theatre.
